“Rising Desert Moonlight”

The beautiful New Mexico sunsets are truly this colorful with the moon rising over the Sandia mountains. When the century plant is ready to bloom a large stalk shoots up quickly from the center with small stalks that hold the blooms. I have watched the process on my walks as many of our neighbors have this plant in their yard. It flowers only once at the end of its life and then the plant dies. The flowers last for about a month and they are so beautiful to see. You can see below a glimpse into my process.
